Member Comments: WOW!! What a beautiful porch; it looks fantastic! That is what everyone is saying. Indeed it is a beautiful porch! We needed to replace our front steps so decided to add a porch – something we have wanted for a long time. Steve created a design that fit the front of the house. It fits the front of the house so well you would think it was built with the original house, and was painted with the house 3 years ago! The workmanship if exceptional, perfection. Steve did a lot of extras to make sure that everything came out perfect and beyond our imagination. The porch makes our house stand out and has added value to our home beyond the investment.

The project went smooth from beginning to end. They removed large rhododendrons and other shrubs and removed all the debris without damaging the lawn or driveway. They arrived on time every day and were not intrusive to our living while construction was going on. They cleaned up at the end of each day, leaving the workspace clean every evening – no nails, no small piece of boards, clean driveway, etc.

Steve and his crew do exceptional quality work. They pay attention to the details. They do the little extras that make the project exceptional, such as adding molding to the front door. They make sure that everything is done correctly so you don’t have to worry about the longevity of the construction. They arrange and organize all the extras to happen smoothly and in sync with the project – the plumber, the electrician, the stonework… everything. Steve takes care of everything for you. You don’t have to think about anything – Steve has it covered and all take care of. He keeps you informed of start date for the project and once the project begins, checks in daily – morning and night. If there are extra things that you would like to have done – like fixing the gutter – just ask, and it is done. The crew is there for you. They treat your home like it is their home so the work is how you would want it to be done.

I highly recommend Steve Chorney and South East Carpentry. The work is of exceptional quality. Project planning is thorough and well communicated. They are dependable and work with high integrity. Description Of Work: The dishwasher drain pipe leaked and soaked and buckled the hardwood floor in our kitchen. The hardwood flooring covered the both the kitchen and living room so insurance covered the replacement of both rooms. The living room abuts this flooring and was in poor condition so we decided to replace the living room floor along with the kitchen and family room.
Member Comments: This was a major project – replacing the flooring over nearly the entire main floor of our house! I was very apprehensive with this project because the original installation from a Home Depot contractor was a major disaster and this project was going to be a major disruption in my life! How do you function when nearly all of the main floor of your house is torn up?

I am thrilled with my new floor! It is stunningly beautiful! Steve made the installation easy for me and all the issues from the original installation were corrected. I can’t thank Steve and his crew enough for how well the project went and how beautiful it turned out!

Steve was so dedicated to the project and satisfying me. He worked very hard to find the right flooring for the project – searching all over to get the best quality for the best price and a color tone that I liked. I can’t express my appreciation for his effort – no one else would have done what he did to make sure the floor would be something that I liked. Steve and his crew also went beyond the call of duty by moving the heavy furniture out of the rooms! Steve communicated every morning and every evening to let me know how things were going – I never had to worry about the status of the project, Steve made sure I knew. He always listened to me and responded to my questions. He managed the project closely and did things to make everything right without having to think about it. He corrected all the problems with the original installation and even did a lot of extras – like matching the baseboards throughout the rooms.

Description Of Work: SE Carpentry was our General Contractor and installed our store purchased kitchen cabinets, appliances and hardwood flooring. The project was a major “high end” custom kitchen remodel. Steve is an outstanding GC. Steve is perfectionest and he pays attention to detail. He is open to questions and if there is a n issue he resolves it immediately. As in all projects things do not always go as planned. In our case Steve discovered a design problem prior to it’s installation and made the modifications. If the item would have been build as the plan indicated there would have been a major problem as some of the materials were “one of a kind” accent european tiles. Steve has his own crew and they are excellent. His men arrived promptly as scheduled, worked a full day and always cleaned up afterwards. If there was a schudeling change he always let as know well before hand. Steve and his crew pay attention to detail and our AAA in all respects.

South Eastern Carpentry took care of replacing the roof of our 1952 cape-style home which consisted of removing approximately 3-layers of old shingles on the main part of the house, a three season room, garage, and attached carport. They also added full ice and water barriers, re-flashed two chimney’s, replaced any fascia boards that were rotten, took care of gable vents, and even ordered for two new gutters to be installed prior to the completion of the job ensuring our drainage system was up to par, as well as cleaning up!

Damage to any wood framing was identified and replaced immediately without question!

The job was estimated to take three days, and the completion date was right on target with what we expected!

From the way the estimate was prepared, to the education we received about our roofing project ,(Steve took the time to sit with us on multiple occasions for over an hour after the initial walk-thru given his extremely busy schedule to answer any and all questions we had relating to the project making us feel confident that he, and his crew, were taking complete ownership of the job), down to the clean up once the job was complete – a truly great experience!

The crew at South Eastern Carpentry was always polite, and kept the jobsite very clean for the three days they were there. In fact, each day the property was cleaned up for them to start again the next morning. They arrived every morning 10 minutes ahead of schedule so as to greet my husband and I, alert us of any changes or additions to the project, as well as inform us of any issues they saw.

My husband and I were very pleased with the overall service that Steve and his Crew provided while onsite. They definitely went above and beyond to not only get the job done in a short amount of time, they also took all necessary precautions, and were proactive in fixing potential problems.Steve continues to educate us on future projects around our house, and sees the potential for structural change – he definitely was NOT a one-and-done contractor who moves on once the job is finished.

Member Comments: Steve Chorney and South Eastern Carpentry were great! when I contacted Steve for an estimate for the roof job, it was the first time I had been in contact with him. Immediately i felt that he was upfront and honest about the job. He made sure i felt comfortable with the terms and worked with me to allay my concerns. I had been lied to and taken by another roofer and told Steve upfront. He took the time to show me the work he and his crew were doing so i knew i was getting what i was paying for. The price was very reasonable, the work was completed quickly and I am so happy to say that my roof no longer leaks at all!!! It is such a relief to not cringe every time it rains and South Eastern Carpentry is the company i have to thank for that.

Steve and South Eastern Carpentry also completed another job for me – reinforcing my front farmer’s porch that was slowly pulling away from my house. It was a very tough job (one that required 2 guys being under my deck for 2 days to dig holes 4 feet deep, pour cement in them and secure thick posts to them that ran the length of the deck) but i never once heard a complaint and again, the work was done quickly and at a very reasonable price.

Steve Chorney was also very professional, as were all of the guys working with him.

Description Of Work: After a tree fell and damaged my 20+ year old deck, I decided to have the whole thing renovated instead of just replacing the damaged area. Having just resided the house with vinyl siding, I wanted to have the deck be equally low maintenance. Using the existing pressure treated deck frame, SEC removed all of the old decking, railing and stairs and repaired/replaced any broken pieces. They reinforced the structure, then rebuilt the surface with composite/vinyl decking and railings. The results are beautiful! I chose a cherry decking with white rails and trim which looks lovely with my light gray shingle siding on the house. There were some size and structure problems with the old deck frame but Steve and his crew fixed the problems and came up with a creative and decorative solution to laying the decking within the size of the old deck. The result is a gorgeous outdoor living area that adds beauty and a touch of class to my home. Steve Chorney (the company owner) and all of his crew are prompt, courteous and work long hours to get the job done in a timely manner. The whole deck only took about 1 week from tear down to clean up.
Member Comments: The story starts with searching for someone to replace my leaking roof over a year ago. I called several contractors and had them price the job of repairing the roof, siding and windows in my 30 year old house. I am the sole owner of my home and do not have a lot of time for maintenance, so my goals were to use quality, low maintenance materials, fix any flaws in the original structure and of course beautify my home! After meeting with the contractors and obtaining quotes for the job, I chose South Eastern Carpentry, even though they did not have the lowest price, for many reasons. First, Steve is thoroughly knowledgable about his work and materials. He understood my goals and had suggestions for achieving them. My first impression was that he was driven to do the job right or not do it at all. The idea of stripping the house down to basics, checking for and repairing problems, then insulating and applying materials to “wrap the house up all tight and cozy” (as Steve put it), gave me great peace of mind. Second, I visited a current SEC job site nearby, saw my chosen siding on an actual house and talked to the owner, who gave rave reviews about SEC and their work. Third, it was well worth a little extra money to know that my house was going to be finished with quality materials that would last for a very long time by a company that was local, has great references and would stand by their work. The peace of mind of having someone I can trust to take care of my biggest financial asset is priceless.
So, when the tree fell on my deck, there was no question about who would do the repair/replacement for me. Steve met with the insurance adjuster at my home, went over all the damage with him and ultimately helped me get the maximum reimbursement for the damage.
My house is a small Cape, 24X36. The roof leaked into my livingroom during a storm, fortunately not doing too much damage. Steve came and put a tarp on the roof to prevent further damage until they could replace the roof (only about a week’s wait). I wanted my house to look like the typical Cape Cod style that is popular in this area. The roofing is a 30 year warranty shingle in Weathered Wood. The siding is Cedar Impressions Naturals in driftwood blend. You would never know that it wasn’t perfectly weathered cedar shingles unless you touch it. It looks fantastic! All the trim is white. My windows are Harvey with white on the outside and wood on the inside, since all of my woodwork inside is stained. SEC worked very hard to match my old stain with the new and the results are perfection! They pulled out my ugly old concrete front stoop and built a large composite entry deck. Oh! and all my doors are new too! Now, with the gorgeous cherry and white deck my house is beautiful, structurally sound, wrapped in long lasting materials all tight and cozy! When I am ready to work on the inside of my house, I will not hesitate to call Steve and the guys at South Eastern Carpentry for their prompt, knowledgable, creative and professional work!

I think the biggest plus for me was the ease and lack of stress I had, from the first meeting with Steve Chourney, right through to the completion of the project. Steve is honest, straight-forward and pays incredible attention to detail. His crew conducts themselves in a very respectful manner, they were happy guys, and worked very efficiently. I also love the fact that they are all US citizens, that was important to me. Our project took place in the winter and if you remember the winter of 2010-2011, there was a ton of snow. They worked through it, getting the job done in the time frame that was quoted, which was impressive in itself. But, when they came back in the spring to clean up after the snow had melted, they did such a thorough job I didn’t need a landscaping crew for the annual ‘spring clean up’. Member Comments: I selected South Eastern Carpentry for many reasons, primarily based on our first meeting with Steve Chorney. After interviewing 4 other contractors without finding a good fit I searched for additional contractors and found SEC. Having an architectural background my requirements were quite specific and Steve, unlike other contractors, understood them and worked with me to estimate the work described instead of defaulting to a more standard installation as other contractors had done. I was also pleased to hear the same crew would be on the project start to finish and there would be no question as to their background.

Work started when Steve said it would. He and his crew were on site every day promptly at 7am and work was continuous from start to finish. There was one crew on site the entire project and all were polite and respectful, guys you could go up and talk with, maybe have a beer with at the end of the day. I had no problems keeping my 9 month old at home a few days while the work was going on.

The quality of the work was excellent, I made sure to be around to view the work and provide direction where needed. Steve was quick to point out areas that needed attention and provided options to improve the overall appearance of the job.

As with any project there are some issues during construction. Having worked professionally with contractors I was prepared for this. I must say there were fewer overall issues than I expected and what did come up was able to be resolved with Steve. I felt his primary goal was to complete the project to my expectations and did this well.

Description Of Work: Designed and built a 16′ x 30′ deck with 2 sets of stairs (1 stair has a landing that splits 2 ways), enclosure to protect and hide pool pump, and a smaller lower level deck with bench.
Member Comments: We wanted to replace an old, small deck with a new deck along the entire back of our house. We wanted easy access to the lawn and to the pool area. Steve provided a number of design ideas for us to talk through to come up with one to meet our family needs. He was very creative and helpful. He handled and coordinated all aspects of the project – pulling permits, arranging for a plumber and electrician, stonework, handling inspections, etc., even offering to do extra things to make it go easier for us, like taking down the old and putting up the new awnings. We had problems in the permit process that delayed the start of the project. Steve was very helpful and flexible, and most of all positive and patient. Once the project got started so did the rain. They put up tarps and proceeded with the project. There was communication every morning and evening on updates of the project and to ensure satisfaction. It was the cleanest project – every evening all trash was gone, tools cleaned up, etc. They were timely and dependable. Progress was fast and it was amazing to come home at night and see my new deck come to life.

The deck turned out awesome, incredibly awesome!!! We love our deck! Our family, friends and neighbors love our deck! It is a fabulous place to relax and enjoy the backyard and pool. It is a great place to entertain. The quality of the work is incredible – exceptional. Incredible attention to detail and strived to achieve perfection in every aspect of the project. Member Comments: I hired South Eastern Carpentry because of several factors. SEC could handle the whole job so I didn’t have to go out and find multiple contractors for each part of the job. I actually went and saw finished jobs and talked to previous customers who all raved about the quality and reliability of SEC. They were on time, worked hard, kept their word, and finished on time. The owner, Steve Chorney, is a stand up guy and great communicator. He was constantly giving me updates via phone, email, and text, and bringing me in early when we had to work through some challenges that inevitably come up with a an old property. We were able to discuss solutions together and take the appropriate steps to keep the project on track and moving. He made great aesthetic recommendations, that included the color of the siding that I ended up going with. The job was done by the book, with appropriate permits and safety precautions.

Description Of Work: I bought a 1938 Cape and a half with eyebrow windows which was in need of multiple repairs.Having been involved with carpenters for over 30 years, I was particular in whom I hired. Having interviewed half a dozen companies, I chose South Eastern Carpentry INC. The services they were able to provide for me included a new roof,replaced a rubber roof and added a roof top deck. Replaced and repaired a bow window while doing some interior and exterior painting.
I then rehired them to reside my home,replace gutters and down spouts,replace ALL windows and interior trim. The front entry way needed to be replaced due to weather damage. In order for the roof line to meet with the existing rod iron railing, Steve designed and built a new entry way with a Sunburst archway.
The latest project has been a 3 seasons addition with hardwood flooring and knotty pine walls.I have been VERY pleased with their work.

Also, there were custom touches in moldings added and sanding wood that were superior to work I have seen on other decks.

Member Comments: The first time I talked with Steve, I knew he was not like any other contractor that I had ever dealt with. Not only was he extremely knowledgeable about his work, but he was deeply passionate about it.

We had our entire roof replaced along with gutters and fascia boards. Steve never leaves you in the dark. Great communication. He gives you all options and keeps you informed every step of the way. His entire crew was great! Have never seen one so hardworking, talented and polite! Everybody worked so well together. Always came on time and left on time. The craftsmanship was TOP NOTCH! They cleaned up perfecty after every day — never even found a nail on the ground after they left. The building inspector even commented on what a great job was done and how clean the work site was.

In 20+ years of home ownership, I have dealt with many contractors. Some were good. Many…well, I get sick to think that I actually had to pay them! Don’t fall into the trap of going with the lowest price. They really don’t match up. The price was in the middle of all estimates, but we felt that we go so much more than what everyone else had offered. The warranty and materials were even the best!

South Eastern Carpentry is truly everything a contractor should be. All future jobs will be done by them. We feel very fortunate to have found this great contractor!

Comments: Although I consider myself a very good handyman we have hired many different contractors in the repairs of an old house my wife and I have had for 35 years. That is why we feel very qualified to rate Steve and his company. We cannot say enough about his determination to be as perfect as one can be in every respect. Steve is personable, eager to please, professional, intelligent, and a true tradesperson. He and his crew replaced shingles on our house and garage in a very timely manner using the best shingles and installing them in an expert manner. Also, the whole area was cleaned up daily. Put this together with a very fair and competitive price and you can’t go wrong with this guy. I would hire him to do anything I need done.
